At Crown Transmissions, we want you to feel comfortable with decisions regarding the safety and quality of your transmission. After all, transmission diagnostics may be the most important part of owning a vehicle. You need to be able to determine when you should see a specialist, how often you should care for your transmission, and when to remain alert. As always, you can feel free to set up an appointment at our auto repair shop, or you can contact us with any questions that you might have.

Some common signs of transmission problems include:

  • Delays when you shift your transmission. If you try to switch from forward into reverse, and you feel your car stalling to change directions, take note. This could be an early sign of a damaged transmission.
  • A shaking vehicle. This is a very bad sign, and should be brought to the attention of a specialist immediately.
  • A burning smell coming from under the hood. Again, this is usually an early warning sign of a damaged transmission.
  • A manual transmission shifter that is physically hard to move, or won’t go into gear at all. See someone as soon as possible, if you’re experiencing this issue.
  • Fluid leaking from underneath the vehicle. This could be a number of things – so you might need to conduct some research of your own. But leaking fluid that smells, or looks cloudy, should be taken seriously.
  • Transmission fluid that is very thick, smelly, or cloudy. You’ll only notice this issue if you check your transmission dipstick often. For this reason, we highly suggest that you do so – at least once every few months.
  • Clunking or whistling sounds coming from the vehicle. Again, there could be a number of causes – but it’s best to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Once you’ve noticed a problem, you should immediately check the transmission fluid. There are many online tutorials to help you determine the quality of your fluid – or, you can always come to us. You should also check your on-board diagnostic codes (something else we can do for you at Crown Transmission, if you don’t have the tools you need). These codes will tell you exactly where your problem originates.

After you’ve determined the source of the problem, you can refer to a repair manual or website. Or, you can simply bring your vehicle into Crown Transmissions. Our resources will quickly find the area in which your problem originates, and what we’ll need to fix it.

Part of transmission diagnostics is knowing when you need to get help. More often than not, a problem showing the symptoms described above needs to be addressed by a transmission specialist. With affordable prices and qualified staff, we can help you there.

At Crown Transmissions, we specialize in transmission diagnostics and maintaining the quality of your vehicle. You can check out our positive reviews here, and our current specials here. As always, we’re here to help – whenever you need it.
